Geo Magazine: January 2022
Geo magazine published an article on the snow level of French ski resorts.
Defining a ranking of the snowiest ski resorts in France is, let's say, like a black run, very difficult. Because to be completely objective, several parameters must be examined closely: there is of course the snow depth recorded at the bottom and top of the slopes, but also the altitude of the ski area, its slope(s), the sunshine in the massif, the weather variables, etc.
The Geo journalists therefore slalomed between different specialized sites (hauteurdeneige.com, skiinfo.fr or france-montagnes.com) to draw up their ranking, based solely on the cumulative snow depth and this on an average of the last eight seasons, between 2012 and 2020.
"In ninth position, a Haute-Savoie resort for a change. Avoriaz (1800 m) and its atypical architecture have seen an average of 514 cm fall per season. And that's not nothing!"
Tthe figure above represents the evolution of the average number of days with significant natural snowfall at high altitude, between the recent climate and that expected by 2050.
